Rain brings the trails to life!

The Valley has had some heavy rains as of late, and even though this might put a kink into some of your riding plans it helps everything grow. With the spring moisture the Rocktown Trails at Hillandale Park have gone from a dark and grey landscape to a vibrant green forest with beautiful dark lines for folks to enjoy.

Blue Ridge Parkway - Vasuvius, VA.

With the record breaking warm temperatures (It is still offically winter) bikes are out and about everywhere, especially road bikes. Yesterday 94' JMU grad Adam Krop was in town to get a taste of some of the great road riding in the Valley, a 60 mile road ride near Vasuvius, VA....great back roads with only 20 cars passing all day long! Kyle is down farther south in Georgia for the annual spring riding camp hosting by 99' JMU grad, Oliver Quinn!

Find you secret road riding place and enjoy! 2012 Harris-Roubaix is only 3 weeks away!

It is bike camping season!

With the weather turning steadily towards spring dreams of camping and the outdoors can transition into plans and action!  Whether you're riding across the county, state or country there is nothing quite like spending a night camping after pedaling to your destination.  I was taking a photo of Collin in our camping display when a real adventurer came into our shop,  He didn't want his picture taken due to his aversion to publicity, but he did allow us to document his bike;  a Salsa Fargo!  A bike he has found to be the best for his heavy load touring.  He likes to carry all kinds of creature comforts with him.  The solar panel is to power his TV!

More Kids on Bikes...Just what we love at SBC!

Below Jilian Pyle is taking her first ride on new Burley Piccolo Trailer with her mother Jessica. The Burley Trailer are by far the best trail-a-bike on the market, the rack mounted  trailer makes the connectivity quick, easy and stiff.

There are so many ways to get your kids experience bike riding with you, this is just another way!

Chase Likes to Ride his Bike Down Awesome Trails!

[caption id="attachment_505" align="aligncenter" width="640" caption="Chase getting into it with his Turner Sultan on his way down Grindstone."][/caption]

Grindstone, part of the Wild Oak National Recreation Trail is a blast to ride down (sometimes) but is steep rutted and mostly unsustainable with the trail located on the "fall line" of the mountain. The installation of log water bars along the trail only serve as a band aid to try and slow the erosion problems associated with such a steep trail. The Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition as already relocated trails in the National Forest (portion of the Wolf Ridge trail) to make them not only more environmentally sustainable but also more accessible and in many cases, more fun. Make sure you put the weekend of April 14 down on your calendar in preparation for the International Mountain Bicycling Association's Trail Care Crew visit. On Saturday April 14 the Crew will hold a Trail Building School. It will start at 9am and consist of a classroom session at the Simms Center. Then we will all venture out to Massanutten for hands on training. The goal of the TCC is to teach folks how to build sustainable and fun trails.

Road Riding in the Shenandoah Valley

Spring is right around the corner and with beautiful scenic roads littering Rockingham County it is time to get your skinny tired beast ready for some action. It never hurts to install fresh cables and housing for the spring tune up. While you are at it you might as well get some fresh bar tape and maybe even some tires. After all, the Harris-Roubaix is right around the corner...
