Shenandoah Bicycle Company Recognized for our "Advocacy Excellence"

Every Year at the Trek Bicycles dealer show the president of Trek (John Burke) pushes all Trek dealers to do more in their local communities and help make this a more bicycle friendly world. We at Shenandoah Bicycle Company are a proud Trek retailer and appreciate the leadership and commitment Trek has shown for bicycle advocacy, becoming a leader within the bicycle industry and helping set the standard.
Did you know that:
Trek and US Trek dealers have teamed up to donate $1 each of every Trek helmet sold to support Bicycle Friendly Communities Program (League of American Bicyclists). By the end of 2013, this will amount to well over $2 million in funding.
$10 from the sale of every Trek full-suspension mountain bike goes to the International Mountain Bicycling Association to support their efforts, to ensure that we all have a place to ride for generations to come.


In an effort to get more Trek dealers involved with advocacy work, Trek recognized a number of bike shops throughout the country for their work over the years as bicycle advocates. At Trek World this year, we kicked off the One World Two Wheels Game Changer program, and I asked every Trek retailer to check the box on their dealer agreement, saying that they would be a Game Changer for advocacy in their market. So far, we’ve had hundreds of retailers sign up for the program. And that’s awesome.

With the Game Changer program, we’ve given you the tools to step up and make a difference in your local markets. But we’ve also got a whole bunch of Trek retailers who are already doing big things for cycling advocacy, and they’re getting results. And I want to recognize them here. As part of our initiative, I’d like to introduce the first recipients of the 2014 Advocacy Excellence Awards:

Jax Bicycle Center 

• Installed a Saris Hub in all 8 store locations to motivate employees, worked with IMBA to bring an MTB park to Orange County.

Truman Lake Bikes

• Turned Warsaw, Missouri into a cycling town. Enlisted help from the community to get 20+ miles of MTB trails built.

Cool Breeze Cyclery 

• Worked closely with Safe Routes to School to get sidewalks installed by their local elementary school.

Shenandoah Bicycle Company

• Founded their local advocacy group, spoke at the National Bike Summit, helped get a local multi-use trail built.

North Central Cyclery

• Formed Axletree, a non-profit advocacy group, helped get a progressive bike law passed in DeKalb, IL.

Towpath Bikes 

• Founded their local MTB advocacy group, held a Breast Cancer Awareness Ride which raised over $64,000.

Bike Barn

• Was integral in getting B-Cycle launched in Houston, helped secure $100M of funding for recreational trails.

These retailers spoke up for their community, leveraged their position as a local business, and made things happen.
